Malaysia’s application to become a BRICS partner has received strong and solid support from all BRICS members including Russia, China and India during a meeting of the eight founding members of the bloc. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this was shared by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Ali during their meeting in Putrajaya on Saturday.

Malaysia was officially recognized as one of the 13 new partner countries in BRICS last Thursday, along with neighbors Thailand and Indonesia. According to Ibrahim, Ethiopia, as a member of BRICS, has been an important pillar for Malaysia’s application to join the alliance, which collectively accounts for one-fifth of global trade.
