Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Shanghai. The two agreed to strengthen bilateral ties. Anwar said in a social media post after Tuesday's talks that he expressed gratitude for China's support in endorsing his country as a new BRICS partner.

Malaysia has also applied for a full membership of the group, which includes China, Russia, India and other emerging economies. Anwar and Li also agreed to boost cooperation in infrastructure projects under China's Belt and Road Initiative.
