At least 33 people were injured after a fire broke out at a gas pipeline operated by Malaysia’s state energy firm Petronas on Tuesday, the fire department said. Six of those injured in the fire were hospitalized, officials said.

The incident occurred near the capital Kuala Lumpur and forced a number of people to flee from their homes. The fire was caused by "a gas pipeline leak stretching approximately 500 meters," according to a statement from Selangor state fire officials. The valve to the affected pipeline has been shut off and seven residents had to be rescued from their homes after they caught fire, the statement said.
