Workers are busy with the maintenance of one of the locks of the century-old Panama Canal, in the hopes of keeping it going for at least another 100 years. The 80-kilometre-long inter-oceanic waterway was inaugurated by the United States in 1914.
Since then, more than one million vessels have passed through its waters. Wilfredo Yau, Engineer at the Panama Canal locks division said that all this maintenance work they are doing is to keep the canal going for at least another 100 years. As it’s their culture of maintenance, it will continue to operate for the benefit of world trade and for their benefit.
