




The Main Survey of the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) 2024 Assessment and Evaluation Research Project was launched on Saturday. Union Minister for Education Dr. Nyunt Pe attended the ceremony, held at Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Zabuthiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw.
In his opening remarks, the Union Minister announced the successful completion of 3-day training for principals and teachers, who will act as coordinators and test administrators. He urged relevant departments and education officers to follow the guidelines systematically. He also emphasized that research supporting educational development is crucial for creating evidence-based policies aligned with local standards to ensure equitable, quality education.
After the welcoming speech by the Director General of the Department of Education Research, Planning and Training, Deputy Director General of the Myanmar Examinations Department presented the work plans of the SEA-PLM.
In the afternoon, the main survey for the SEA-PLM 2024 assessment continued as planned. The SEA-PLM is a comprehensive ASEAN-wide assessment that evaluates the literacy, numeracy and social skills of final-year primary school students (Grade 5 in Myanmar). It helps understand the current learning situation in the region and provides a way to measure learning outcomes. The second SEA-PLM 2024 survey will be conducted in seven Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar.
The survey in Myanmar will collect data from 6,044 Grade 5 students across 192 private and monastic schools in 105 townships. It will cover Reading, Mathematics and Global Citizenship using Text Booklets, Parent Questionnaires and Student Questionnaires.
