Magnitude 6.2 quake strikes Chiba, east of Tokyo. Earth quake hits near Tokyo on May.26. A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, at around 7:03 p.m. on Friday.  Japan's Meteorological Agency says there is no threat of a tsunami.

The agency estimates the epicenter was off the eastern coast of Chiba, and the focus was at a depth of 50 kilometers.  The earthquake registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic scale of zero to 7 in the cities of Choshi and Asahi in Chiba Prefecture as well as in Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
