Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro said he will wait until January 2026 to submit his constitutional reform proposal to the new National Assembly. The reform aims to create a new electoral system based on local voting districts organized around community councils, in an effort, he said, to "modernize the country's political system."

"Venezuela needs to modernize, expand, and bring to reality the new political system by building its electoral system," said Maduro after casting his vote in the regional and parliamentary elections.
