President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that France has evacuated 538 people, including 209 French nationals, from Sudan amid fighting between rival generals. The French leader thanked Sudan's warring generals, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, for cooperation in facilitating the evacuations.

Speaking at a defence council meeting in the Elysee Palace, Macron confirmed that a French soldier was injured in the operation, but added that his “life is no longer in danger.” Some 150 French soldiers are mobilised for the evacuation operation, that has been called "Sagittaire."
