Macron launches first ceremony to mark 80th anniversary of D-Day landings

French president Emmanuel Macron kicks off three days of ceremonies on Wednesday marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, by presiding over the first ceremony at Plumelec in France.

Along with US president Biden, British King Charles III and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,French President Emmanuel Macron will on Thursday remember the heroism of the Allied troops who gave their lives often far from home in the landings on June 6, 1944 to free Europe from Nazi occupation.
