M7.1 quake hits Japan, no abnormalities reported at nuclear plants

A magnitude-7.1 earthquake jolted the southern Japanese prefecture of Miyazaki on Thursday. Japan issued a tsunami warning after the quake and then lifted it for southwestern regions with the exception of Miyazaki, according to NHK.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake was centred off the eastern coast of Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu at a depth of about 30km. A Japanese official said that there have been no reports of any abnormalities at nuclear power plants.
