Colombians are hard at work picking and packaging Valentine's Day flowers for export to the United States ahead of this week's holiday. Colombia is the second country exporter of flowers in the world behind the Netherlands. Some 35,000 tons of flowers will be sent to the U.S. for the Feb. 14 celebration.
The industry has been exporting for 40 years, during which time it has forged an image as a producing country, standing out for having the largest variety of exotic flowers and export type in the world, with about 1,500 that are characterized by their quality, size, colour and aroma.
