London Zoo marks 200 years of animal counting

London Zoo carried out its annual animal stocktake, a process dating back two centuries. The stocktake sees the zoo officially record more than 8,000 animals on an international conservation database.

As the zoo enters its bicentenary year of counting, head zookeeper Daniel Simmonds said the process is "also a time for reflection in the ever increasing changes in the geopolitical landscape". He added that "it reminds them though that they do have all one thing in common and that's nature."
