There were fewer shoppers than usual at the normally bustling UK Boxing Day sales, despite large discounts on offer.

Footfall was down by nearly a third across all UK retail destinations on Monday, compared to pre-pandemic levels, with worries about the cost of living crisis on many people's minds.

Shoppers in London said they were buying less and were surprised how quiet the streets were. The festive shopping season is crunch time for the retail sector and businesses know there may be similarly quiet days ahead as shoppers continue to tighten their belts.
