The Mayor of London has called on the government to offer financial measures to compensate companies for loss of business due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant in the city. Restaurants, bars and theatres have seen as a "devastating" drop in business due to virus.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said "It's crucial that the government has got to provide a financial package of measures, grants, 100 percent business rates relief, more news in relation to furlough. If the government doesn't, you're going to see many, many businesses going bust and tens of thousands of people losing their jobs."

Londoners are becoming increasingly apprehensive about the variant, which officials have warned appears to be more transmissible than the delta variant, which has already put pressure on hospitals worldwide.
