Livestock Sector: Efforts for development of livestock sector

For continuous acceleration of livestock breeding process which has been affected by the flood, caused by heavy rain due to Typhoon Yagi, 500 piglets were provided at the ceremony held at Pauk Myaing Village-tract in Lewe Township, Nay Pyi Taw on February 1st.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Aung Gyi along with departmental officials and farmers. In his speech, the Deputy Minister said due to heavy rain caused by Typhoon Yagi in September 2024, Mandalay Region, Nay Pyi Taw, Shan State and Bago Region suffered severe flooding, along with casualties and infrastructure damages.

The government is striving to fulfil necessary livestock to meet targeted amount upon the numbers of lost animals while the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department is providing required technologies and health care assistance.

The Deputy Minister called for collaborative efforts of all concerned officials to increase livestock production through systematic breeding method. After accepting the 500 pigs by one of the representative farmers, Pauk Myaing village Administrator expressed words of thanks.

Then, the Deputy Minister proceeded to Poultry farms at Pan Tin Village and instructed to focus on biosecurity of the farm. Next, the Deputy Minister visited the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department and met with the departmental officials, instructed for local MSME development by producing value-added products in conformity with market demand.

He also stressed the needs to carry out monitoring and prevention measures for communicable diseases as well as to ensure long-term sustainability of food safety and natural resources.
