Livestock Sector Development: Workshop on animal disease prevention and control

A workshop on animal disease prevention and control, initiated by Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund Project 2023, was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw on 21st March.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Aung Gyi attended the workshop and made an opening speech. The workshop focused on the risk of Avian influenza and its control and preventive measures due to migration bird entering Myanmar during weather transition period. It also aims to enact necessary policies related to communicable diseases. 

During the workshop, the attendees made discussions on Avian influenza investigations and control measures, common poultry diseases in Myanmar and diagnostic laboratory operations.

The Avian Influenza which affects both domestic and wild birds is a highly contagious zoonotic disease which can spread to mammalian species including humans. The Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and Low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) are major concerns of the countries across the world which cause fatalities and heavy economic losses for breeders.
