Livestock Sector: CM inspects salt water shrimp farming and production

Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, Regional Ministers and departmental officials inspected the modern salt water shrimp farming and production in KyunSu Township for the development of the livestock sector.

First, the Chief Minister and party visited the modern salt water shrimp farms being established in Maaing island of Maaing village tract and inspected the shrimp ponds construction. Also, the Chief Minister and party inspected the salt water shrimp farms which are successfully operating near MaSanPar Village of Maaing  Village tract and in Kattalu  Village.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister and party heard reports on finished product production, expansion of shrimp ponds and encouraged the concerned officials to produce salt water shrimp value-added products for the development of the livestock sector.

A total of 8,890 tons of salt water shrimps were produced in Myeik District in 2022-2023 FY and the shrimps are distributed not only to local market but also to foreign market. In salt water shrimp farming, the amount of shrimplets put into the shrimp ponds are different due to the season and the harvesting period can also be different according to the market condition. Usually, a shrimp pond can produce about 30-40 tons of shrimps. It’s learnt.
