The ceremony of releasing verified livestock numbers in the country was held at Kempinski Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
The nationwide livestock census was conducted to facilitate in drafting country’s future projects, to issue the domesticated animal population and figure of animal related productions, verify necessary policies and investment plans and acquire the exact data of livestock breeding invested by public-private partnership. Union minister Dr. Aung Thu delivered a remark at the ceremony and the permanent secretaries, directors-general, representatives from FAO, Livelihood and Food Security Trust and international organizations and media persons attended the event.
The livestock population released was based on the survey conducted during January, February and May, 2018 in 12203 villages, 530 wards in 275 townships.
The animal population breeding during the survey included 9.5 million of draught cattle, 0.11 million of dairy cattle, 1.8 million of buffaloes, 2.1 million of sheep and goats, 5.8 million of pigs, 70 million of chickens, 8.9 million of duck, turkey, goose and muscovy duck and 3.8 million of digs, it’s learnt.
