Landmarks around the world went dark as the lights were switched off on Saturday night for Earth Hour. The hour-long World Wildlife Fund-organized event, held annually on the last Saturday of March, aims to raise awareness of the perils of climate change.

Rome's Colosseum plunged into darkness for an hour, during the worldwide switch off. The 14th edition of World Hour also saw a darkened Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Both the London Eye and The Shard skyscraper went dark for an hour in the British capital.

The Dubai Expo 2020 also marked the occasion by turning off its lights. The first Earth Hour event was held in 2007 in the Australian city of Sydney and has since then grown to include more than 190 countries around the globe during the annual event.
