Derna, a city in eastern Libya, is today a huge open-air construction site, where housing, road and bridge projects are progressing so that survivors of the devastating and deadly floods of September 2023 can return to their city.

On the night of September 10-11, 2023, Storm Daniel hit Libya's east coast, causing flooding amplified by the bursting of two dams upstream of Derna, leaving thousands dead and missing and more than 40,000 displaced.
