Library Development: Shan State Government organizes the activity in Taunggyi

With the supervision of Shan State Government, the Information and Public Relations Department and the Department of the Basic Education jointly organized a Library development and literacy promotion ceremony at No (1) Basic Education High School in TaungGyi on 19th June.

Chief Minister of Shan State U Aung Aung explained about the objectives of the ceremony, aiming at the development of libraries and promoting the habit of reading among the people and students.

The State plans to hold (100) reading promotion festivals throughout the country, (7) times in the southern part of Shan State, (4) times in Eastern Shan State and (2) times in Northern Shan State, altogether (13) times.

In addition to the national program, the programs of the states, districts and townships reading promotion festivals will continue to be held. The Chief Minister urged all officials to pay attention for successful implementation of these activities.

The Chief Minister also provided cash assistance for the festival, and observed the competitions such as Student’s reading skills, extemporary talks, essay writing and poetry recitation. They also toured the SarpayBeikman bookstore, students’ fun fairs and displays of photos and books.

The ceremony also included a literary talk by author Ngwe Chi Lin Lett (Myanmarsar) and Author MyintShwe Bo on the roles of the library.
