







The Library Development and Reading Habit Promotion Festival was held at Thalay သာလေး Basic Education High School in Nyaung Shwe of Shan State on Sunday. Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung formally opened the event which included performances by school bands and ethnic traditional song and dance groups as well as exhibitions of books, magazines, and photographs, and physical and mental competitions.
A video clip on “Moving Forward to the Goal” was also screened during the ceremony. In his speech, the Union Minister highlighted the peaceful and scenic nature of Inle, its tourism development, and post-earthquake recovery efforts with the joint efforts of the government, Tatmadaw, and local communities.
He also encouraged students to excel in education and read more books. The Chief Minister also spoke about ongoing efforts to develop libraries and promote reading habit. During the event, 50 MRTV DTH satellite receivers, books and magazines and cash assistance were donated to libraries. The event was organized jointly by the Ministry of Information, Shan State Government, Department of Public Relations, and Department of Basic Education.
