Library Development: Efforts for promoting reading habit

The opening ceremony of School Library Development and Promotion of Reading Habit was held at Basic Education High School in SinBaungWe, AungLan District in Magway Region on 9th November.

First, the arch of the School Library Development and Promotion of Reading Habit was opened by cutting ceremonial ribbons. Next, Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin and concerned officials made a tour to the fun game competitions, book stalls, photo gallery and departmental exhibitions.

Then, the ceremony was continued with the screening of video clip title “ Let’s strengthen the interest of the nation”. It was followed by the remarks of the Chief Minister. In his remark, the Chief Minister said that the ceremony is organized under the guidance of the head of state aiming to nurture the students to become qualified youths who possess five kinds of strength, to improve their critical thinking skill and to enhance their knowledge through literature.

Then, the Chief Minister presented gifts to the author U Set Aung who participated in knowledge sharing session, donated publications for the school library, presented honorary cash awards to the students.

During the ceremony, basic education high school, middle school and primary school level debate competitions, impromptu. essay, poem recitation, story telling competition as well as fun game competitions were held and the winners of the competitions were awarded by the officials respectively.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister and party attended the opening ceremony of U Kyin U new library building and inspected the display of books and publications and furnitures layouts.

During the meeting with the departmental officials, local residents and students, the Chief Minister heard reports and called for the collaborative efforts of the local residents for systematic operation and long term resilient of the library.

U Kyin U new library building was constructed with the fund allocated by Myanmar Library Development Cooperation Committee and cash donated by well wishers. A total of 21 new library buildings are planned to construct within Magway Region during this year. At present, 7 new library building have already opened.
