At least 28 people have been killed and thousands of homes damaged as torrential rains triggered floods and landslides across central and eastern Mexico, authorities said Friday. President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that a minor died in Queretaro, apparently swept away by the current, and that a police officer died in Veracruz while trying to rescue people trapped by flooding. The national coordinator for Civil Protection said that 31 federal entities have been affected.
