






Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi attended the “Launch Ceremony of the Joint Plan of Action-CLEAR Sky Strategy” held in Bangkok of Thailand, arrived at Yangon in the afternoon on 30th October and the concerned officials welcome them at Yangon International Airport.
The “Launch Ceremony of the Joint Plan of Action-CLEAR Sky Strategy” was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok in the afternoon on 29th October and the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa delivered an opening remark.
Next, the Minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Mr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Union Minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi and Laos Minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Dr. Mrs. BounkhamVorachit gave keynote speech. Union Minister U KhinMaung Yi stated that the joint project, the CLEAR Sky Strategy (2024-2030), aims to implement the objectives and goals discussed between the leaders of Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand during the trilateral talks on cross-border haze pollution held on April 7, 2023.
In Myanmar, especially in areas bordering Thailand, such as Shan State, relevant departments are actively collaborating on effective fire prevention and control strategies to address cross-border haze pollution. He noted that haze-free areas have been achieved at rates of 56.73% in 2010, 60.17% in 2015, and 82.03% in 2020.
The current joint project aims to further increase regional cooperation to create a haze-free environment. He urged the involvement and support of government agencies, local communities, the private sector, and partner organizations to bring the joint project to fruition.
Following this, the ministers pressed the launch button to announce the "Clear Sky Strategy" joint project and took the documentary photos. They then toured the displayed exhibitions, where responsible officials provided explanations. Subsequently, environmental departments from ASEAN countries, partner organizations, and attendees held discussions under the theme "CLEAR Sky Strategy – Tackling Transboundary Haze in ASEAN."
They examined potential challenges, strategies for achieving success, and practical actions to address the cross-border haze issue collaboratively among the three neighboring countries. Reports indicate that a total of 450 participants attended the discussion, including natural resources and environmental ministers, senior officials, and environmental experts from Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos.
