Lanterns light up southern Chinese city ahead of Lunar New Year

Dozens of giant lanterns in the shape of mythological characters, flowers and animals light up in a park in the southern Chinese city of Fuzhou, creating a colourful landscape for people taking a night stroll ahead of the traditional Lunar New Year.

People across the country return to their hometowns for Lunar New Year celebrations and family reunions. This year, it falls on Jan 29th, ushering in the Year of the Snake.
