Lantern show lights up night sky in southwest China city ahead of Spring Festival

27 January 2019

An annual Spring Festival lantern show opened in Kunming on Friday, drawing tourists from across the country for an evening of dazzling lights, colors, shapes and themes.

The lanterns, displayed in Daguan Park, come in all sizes and shapes including dragons, lotuses, pavilions and more, illuminating the night sky. The most attractive of all is a huge 8-meter-wide, 12-meter-high moon-shaped lantern that sits on a serene lake. The show will run until March 24. Daguan Park will hold a tulip exhibition, as well as a series of other activities during the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 5 this year.
