Kyokushin Championship: Myanmar Hosts 2nd Iko Kyokushin Karate Asian Pacific Championship 2019

Myanmar hosted the 2nd IKO Kyokushin  Karate Asian Pacific Championship 2019 at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon on Sunday.

This is the first time for Myanmar to host the contest and the 1st championship was held in Indonesia in 2017.It aims to increase youths’ interest in sports, to spread awareness on Kyokushin Karate, to maintain friendship between participant countries and to improve athletes’ skills and experience.

There are 18 categories in total - light weight, middle weight and heavy weight divisions for male and female, 8 divisions for boy and 4 for girls.

A total of 72 prizes will be awarded with first, second and 2 third prizes for each category.

President, IKO Matsushima, Yoshikazu Matsushima said “I’m so thankful towards all those who put in efforts for this event, judges, officials, fighters and supporters. I’m very sad that Myanmar Kyokushin legend shinhan Maung Maung Myint had passed away and couldn’t be here. The 5th IKO Matsushima world cup was held in China in 2018. Kyokushin strengthens players not only physically but also spiritually.”

Kyokushin is a sports type of stand-up fighting, founded in 1964 which has international appeal with its full contact style. Over 150 players from 11 countries such as Myanmar, Japan, Russia, U.S., Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, India, China and Nepal participated in the contest.
