Kim Jong-un oversees ICBM engine test

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw an on-site test of a solid-fuel engine for a new intercontinental ballistic missile, which uses composite carbon fiber materials. The Korean Central News Agency stated it was the final test in the development process and even unveiled the maximum thrust, which is higher than the previously announced figure.

The latest test employed a composite carbon fiber material that is lighter and more heat resistant. This allows a heavier payload or multiple warheads. It also enables reducing the full size of the missile which in turn allows a smaller launch vehicle, thereby raising operational maneuverability.
