North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is expected to leave Pyongyang late Monday by train and pass through the Chinese border city of Dandong on his way to Beijing to attend China’s Victory Day military parade on Wednesday.

Security measures have been reinforced in Dandong, with officers deployed along the Amnokgang River and nearby streets, patrol boats operating on the river, and tourist access restricted to the Amnokgang River Broken Bridge, a well-known site beside the railway bridge. Kim’s train journey from Pyongyang to Beijing usually takes about 20 hours. According to the South Korean government, the visit is viewed as part of North Korea’s effort to strengthen relations with China.
