North Korea's ruling Workers' Party started a big meeting of its top officials with leader Kim Jong Un on Monday. The meeting is set "to discuss and decide on the strategic and tactical policies and practical tasks" for the ruling party.
The KCNA report did not say how long the meeting will go on for, but in recent years, similar meetings could run for up to four days. Kim Jong Un had a routine of making a New Year's address on January 1 from early in his rule. But in 2020 and 2021, he did not follow this routine. If this party meeting continues for several days, it could be possible that Kim Jong Un would make a speech at the meeting which state media will report on January 1, instead of the previous format of a New Year's address.
