Kenya school dorm fire kills at least 17 children

A fire raged through the dormitory of a boarding school for young children in central Kenya in the early hours of Friday, killing 17 boys sleeping there and injuring 14 others.

The death toll could rise, police warned on Friday, following the disaster at Hillside Endarasha Primary School in Nyeri County, as the survivors are being treated in hospitals. Government spokesperson said the boys were in grades 4 to 8, putting their ages at about 9 to 13-years-old. The dormitory housed 156 students. The cause of the fire was being investigated, adding that “necessary action” would be taken.
