Kazakhstan Trip: Union Minister attends energy forums

Delegation led by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin attended the First Energy forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Kazakhstan Energy Week 2023 and the Kaz Energy Eurasian Forum on the 3rd and 4th of October in Astana of Kazakhstan. In the forums, the Union Minister said that Myanmar has many energy resources, however, there are limitations in production capacity so, it wants to cooperate with "SCO".

The main objective of Myanmar's energy policy is to ensure energy security for sustainable economic development in the country. Investments from close partner countries are needed to meet Myanmar's energy needs. Countries working together to reduce carbon dioxide and develop a green environment need to take a balanced view of energy transitions based on diversity and different circumstances.

Myanmar will establish friendly relations with SCO members and pay special attention to the interests of member countries, the Union Minister added. During the trip in Kazakhstan, the Union Minister held discussions with Deputy Governor of Karaganda which is a coal production area, Strategy and Investment Director from Kaz Phosphate Company which has the largest supply of fertilizers and Strategy and Investment Director from Kaz MunayGas Company.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defence organization established by China and Russia in 2001. It is the world's largest regional organization in terms of geographic scope and population, covering approximately 80% of the area of Eurasia, 40% of the world population. As of 2021, its combined GDP was around 20% of global GDP.
