Kazakhstan calls for nuclear disarmament

Kazakhstan has called for renewed high-level dialogue among nuclear powers and continued efforts toward nuclear disarmament. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi said Kazakhstan’s experience of renouncing the world’s fourth-largest nuclear arsenal showed that disarmament can strengthen security and promote development.

He said nuclear-weapon states remain responsible for working toward a world free of nuclear weapons, despite the lack of agreement on key arms-control issues. Kazakhstan also offered to host one of the next meetings among nuclear powers.
