The Kayin people in MaUbin Township celebrated their traditional White Thread Tying (Wrist Tying) Ceremony on Friday.
The ceremony was formally opened by striking the Kayin traditional drum nine times. Member of the State Administration Council Manh Nyein Maung extended greetings, highlighting Myanmar’s diverse national races, which have resided in the country since ancient times, and emphasized the importance of unity and harmony among the national people to overcome challenges that could threaten the sovereignty, peace, and stability of the state.
The Kayin traditional White Thread Tying Ceremony is usually celebrated in the month of Wakhaung. During the festival, young people receive white wrist ties from their elders, which are believed to drive away obstacles and evil spirits, and bring good luck, health, and strength to their body and soul.
