Kayin National New Year Day: SAC member Mahn Nyein Maung opened the celebration

Member of the State Administration Council, Man Nyein Maung, attended the 87th Kayin National New Year Flag-raising Ceremony held at the Mya Sein Yaung Taung Taw, in Myaung Mya Township, Ayeyarwady Region in the morning on 30th December.

The ceremony began with the flag being carried by the flag-raising team, accompanied by the the Drum and Bugle Corps. Man Nyein Maung then opened the ceremony with nine beats of Phar-Si drum, and scented water was sprinkled to the Phar-Si drum.

After that, the national flag was raised at the top of the pole, followed by a a salute for the national flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Kayin National Flag. Next, Man Nyein Maung delivered a New Year’s greeting, sang the Karen national song, and concluded the ceremony was concluded by singing the Kayin national song and Kayin Done-Yein dance.

Additionally, an opening ceremony of the latterite road which connects the Pwe Hnyet San Village to Kone Thar Junction in Myaungmya Township was held and the SAC member Man Nyein Maung, Chief Minister of Ayeyarwady Region U Tin Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Myint Soe, Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs Col. Moe Min Naing, Main donor of the road U Myo Win Aung, ceremoniously cut the ribbon, captured photographs, and inspected the new road.

After that, the 87th Kayin National New Year celebration was celebrated and attended by SAC member Man Nyein Maung, Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win and wife Region ministers, and local people. The traditional Kayin music and cultural performances were presented, and SAC member Man Nyein Maung opened the ceremony with nine ceremonial drum beats.

Subsequently, SAC member Mahn Nyein Maung read a message on Kayin New Year Day sent by the Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing, and extended New Year greetings emphasized the importance of preserving Karen literature, culture, and traditional heritage.

Furthermore, representatives of Buddhist monks, including Baddanta Gunabhira from Zeyar Maydani Monastery in Myaung Mya Township, and Christian religious leaders, such as Bishop Monsi Nyaw Henry Mahn Ai Kha Lein, also offered New Year greetings and well wishes.

Afterward, SAC and Chief Minister honored the outstanding Kayin ethnic individuals with awards for their achievements. The celebration at the 87th Kayin National New Year Day Ceremony was successfully held with a full schedule of activities, charity feasts, performances, and events that included traditional ceremonies and the participation of many ethnic communities.

In the evening on December 29, SAC member Man Nyein Maung visited the Nyaung Ai Basic Education High School in Kyaungkone Township Kyon Pyaw District, and toured the school premises. He observed the clean and green surroundings and classrooms.

Furthermore, he met with district, township, and department officials, as well as teachers and members of the school committees, to discuss ways to improve and further develop the education sector and ensure the proper coordination of necessary resources.

SAC member Man Nyein Maung also presented awards and financial rewards to the Nyaung Ai School, which had achieved a 75.86% pass rate in the 2022 matriculation Exam, a 100% pass rate in 2023, and 75% in 2024. The school’s headmistress received the awards on behalf of the school.
