Kanlaon Volcano in the central Philippines erupted on Monday, sending an ash and gas plume up to 3,000 meters high.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised the alert level to three, indicating a magmatic eruption that could lead to more explosive activity. Villages within a 6-km radius were advised to evacuate and authorities warned of potential further evacuations. Kanlaon is one of the country's active volcanoes in the Pacific "Ring of Fire."
