Kabul mosque attack kills at least 3, leaves 19 injured

In western Kabul on Thursday, at least three people died and 19 others were injured in a mortar attack on a Shiite gathering attended by high-ranking officials and politicians. Several rounds of mortars are alleged to struck the compound of the Shahid Mazari Musalla, a large open mosque building, during an ongoing event commemorating a late Shiite leader in the Dashti Barchi locality.

Three civilians were killed in the attack, while two politicians were among the injured, with women and children also being wounded. Several other victims who were inside their homes near the targeted compound at the time of the blast also sustained some injuries.

Afghan government Chief Executive, Foreign Minister as well as the former President were all present at the event, but were not injured during the attack, according to local media reports. No group has as yet come forward to claim responsibility for the attack.
