




The panel discussion of Marine and Coastal Protected Areas of the 23rd International Environmental Forum concerning the “Baltic Sea Day” was held in the evening on 23rd of March by Hybrid format and Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi attended the discussion. In his remark at the discussion, the Union Minister said 4 marine conservation areas have been established in Myanmar, and Mangroves, coastal ecosystems and biodiversity are being conserved, and Lan Pi National Marine Park was designated as an ASEAN Heritage Park in 2003.
The National Coastal Resource Management Central Committee is pushing to find and identify areas that can be prioritized for the development of the blue economy. For the long-term development of the coastal region and for the long-term exploitation and use of coastal resources, to maintain coastal ecosystem services and biodiversity in coastal areas, Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) is being developed and implemented.
He said that international cooperation in coastal and marine ecosystem conservation activities will continue in a momentum. The forum is the largest one held at North-West of Russian Federation for the protection of natural environment, exploitation of natural resources and safety for ecosystem. During the forum, the envoronmental organizations, experts, business entrepreneurs, scientists, researchers and representatives discussed the role of the marine protected areas, protection of man-made impacts from environmental changes and pollutions at the marine and coastal areas and development of tourism industry.
