John Hopfield & Geoffrey Hinton win Physics Nobel for their 'foundational discoveries'

American John Hopfield and Canadian-Briton Geoffrey Hinton are announced as the winners of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics "for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial narrow networks", says Secretary General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Hans Ellegren, Secretary General, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said "The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has today decided to award the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics to John Hopfield, Princeton University, USA, and Geoffrey Hinton, University of Toronto, Canada, for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial narrow networks." The pair were honoured for their pioneering work on machines that can learn.
