The Japan Meteorological Agency  confirmed that central Tokyo recorded an unprecedented 37 consecutive days of rain from August 27 through October 2, shattering modern records dating back to the start of JMA recordkeeping in 1886.

The streak surpassed the previous all-time record of 33 consecutive rainy days set between June and July 2019. September brought immense gloom to the capital, with central Tokyo experiencing only around 46 hours of sunshine for the entire month roughly 36% of typical averages with 14 days seeing no sunshine at all.

Weather authorities attributed the prolonged wet spell to a combination of persistent, stationary autumn rain fronts, a succession of typhoons, and broader climatic influences like El Niño and global warming patterns.
