Japanese Nobel laureates speak at ceremony hosted by Japan embassy in Sweden. The two Japanese Nobel Prize winners for 2025 have spoken about their achievements at a ceremony hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Sweden ahead of Wednesday’s award ceremony. Sakaguchi Shimon, a distinguished honorary professor of the University of Osaka, is one of the three winners of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Kitagawa Susumu, an executive vice-president of Kyoto University, is also one of the three winners of the Prize in Chemistry. Sakaguchi said children who ask him about what’s needed to win a Nobel Prize often put him in a quandary. He said he thinks good scientists need a “door” they can shut so they can concentrate, and a “bridge” for them to connect to society. Kitagawa said his research results have been achieved with the help of many other researchers over many years, not by himself alone. He said he wants to thank his students and family for their support.
