Former Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio Kishida and a group of Liberal Democratic Party Diet members arrived in Indonesia on Saturday. Kishida made an inspection tour of a smart city in the suburbs of capital Jakarta on Sunday.
He has expressed his intention to push forward a plan to achieve carbon neutrality and economic growth through cooperation between Japan and Southeast Asian countries. The smart city has been developed and operated by Japanese firms and others. Kishida says energy demands are increasing in Asia, where economic growth is remarkable but most energy has been produced by fossil fuels.
He says efforts to achieve carbon neutrality should be made urgently. Kishida proposed the plan while he was in office as prime minister.
