Japan has two new astronauts who aim to push the frontiers of space exploration. Suwa and Yoneda were picked as astronaut candidates last year in JAXA’s first selection program since 2009.

Their training included experiencing near-zero gravity and piloting small aircraft. They may join an international lunar research project… and could be the first Japanese to walk on the moon. JAXA says the new astronauts will train in the United States for six months from November.
