Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru has vowed to persuade the United States that its recently introduced tariff measures will not benefit its industry, even though the negotiations will take some time. Ishiba met on Sunday with business people who are operating motorbike and parts manufacturing companies in Kobe, western Japan. He heard them describe the impact of the US tariffs on their production.

He explained that his government is calling on President Donald Trump to retract the tariff measures, but the negotiations will take some time. He noted that Japan has been the world’s largest investor in the US and has created more jobs there than any other country. He promised that Japan will keep negotiating to convince the US administration that tariff measures are never appropriate for the country to help strengthen its industry.
