Japan Prime Minister Takaichi announces snap election for Feb. 8

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae announced snap election for February 8th. Takaichi stated that she is seeking a stronger mandate for her coalition government and her Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party are aiming for a majority. 

Furthermore, she said that “She was putting her position as Prime Minister on the line and she want the people themselves to decide whether they are willing to entrust Takaichi Sanae with the task of running the nation. She noted that A Lower House election is thought to determine the government. Takaichi added If the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party secure a majority, she will continue to lead the country.”
