Japan PM Ishiba to leave for South America to join APEC, G20 summits

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru left for South America on Thursday to attend summits of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and Group of 20. The eight-day tour will take him to Peru and Brazil. In Peru, Ishiba will join an APEC summit. He plans to call for promoting free and open trade and investment.

He will convey his intention to contribute to regional economic development. Later in Brazil, Ishiba will attend a G20 summit. He plans to stress that Japan will work together with developing countries to tackle international issues such as poverty and climate change.
