Japan, Philippines deepening ties in 'severe' security environment

Japan’s defense chief, Gen Nakatani, urged stronger security ties with the Philippines amid rising regional tensions. After meeting with Philippine Defense Secretary Teodoro in Manila, Nakatani stressed enhancing defense cooperation, including advancements in equipment and technology.

Gilberto Teodoro, Philippine Defense Secretary: said  "This meeting was an exchange of views on regional security issues on the Indo-Pacific, in the situation in the East Sea and the South China Sea, and most importantly, on our shared initiatives moving forward, not only on bilateral security enhancements but also in promoting a sustainable, economically beneficial, and sustained defence industry partnership."

Both officials also underlined the importance of resisting attempts to alter the global order by force, while strengthening collaboration with other allies in the Indo-Pacific region.
