Members of the media were given a first look at the Japan Pavilion for the 2025 World Expo in Osaka on Sunday, ahead of the event scheduled from April 13 to October 13.

The two-story pavilion, covering 13,000 square meters, is the largest at the Expo and will serve as both the host nation’s base and a guest house for foreign dignitaries. The pavilion, still under construction, features the theme "Between Lives" and includes an innovative facility using microbes to decompose waste and generate biogas for electricity.

The iconic Hello Kitty mascot, dressed in various types of seaweed, is featured prominently to promote algae as a potential solution for fuel and food security. Interior work is expected to be completed by the end of February.
