Japan-Mekong Summit: State Counsellor Attended Mekong-Japan Summit

The state counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi delivered the addresses at the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting and Japan-Mekong Economic Forum on Tuesday. The state counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi together with the members attended working breakfast of the heads of countries of Mekong Region hosted by Japan-Mekong Parliament Goodwill Association at Hotel Otani in Tokyo at 7:30 Am.

The working breakfast were also attended by Cambodia's Prime Minister Mr. Samdech Hun Sen, Lao's Prime Minister Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith , Thailand's Prime Minister Mr. Prayuth Chan-ocha and Vietnam's Prime Minister Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, representatives of Mekong countries and Japan-Mekong Parliament Goodwill Association. The state counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the head of states and representatives from Japan and Mekong countries gave the words of greeting at the breakfast and clarified the development and cooperation among the Mekong Region countries.

Later, the state counsellor together with Cambodia's Prime Minister, Laotian Prime Minister, Thailand's Prime Minister and Vietnam's Prime Minister arrived at State Guest House in Tokyo to attend the opening ceremony of 10th Mekong-Japan Summit and the Japan Prime minister welcomed them with the guards of honor.

At the soccer event, the state counsellor, Cambodia's Prime Minister, Laotian Prime Minister, Thailand's Prime Minister and Vietnam's Prime Minister presented memorable footballs to the U-17 football players of the respective countries. Afterwards, the president of Japan football federation presented memorable football jerseys to the state counsellor and the heads of states of Mekong region countries and posed for documentary photo together.

Next, the state counsellor attended the opening ceremony of 10th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting held at the State Guest House. Japan prime minister, heads of Mekong region countries, representatives and senior officials attended the opening ceremony of 10th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting.

At the meeting, Japanese prime minister delivered the opening remark and Cambodia's Prime Minister Mr. Samdech Hun Sen, Lao's Prime Minister Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith ,  State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Thailand's Prime Minister Mr. Prayuth Chan-ocha and Vietnam's Prime Minister Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc participated in the discussion. The state counsellor discussed to review the Mekong-Japan cooperation process, Tokyo Strategy 2015 and ’2018,” future plans, further improvement on “connectivity” and “quality infrastructure” in the region, boosting connectivity between Japan and Mekong countries in industrial production, establishment of people-to-people community, further implementation for the technological and human resources development and the international affairs.

During the summit, the leaders issued the adoption of the Tokyo Strategy 2018 for Mekong-Japan Cooperation in the 2019-2021. After reaffirmation of Tokyo Strategy 2018 for Mekong-Japan Cooperation, the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave the speech of conclusion.

Later, Japan prime minister, Cambodia's Prime Minister, Lao's Prime Minister, State Counsellor, Thailand's Prime Minister and Vietnam's Prime Minister attended the joint press conference and replied the queries of the reporters and journalists respectively. Then, the state cousellor together with the leaders of the Mekong region countries attended the working luncheon with the representatives from businesses hosted at Hotel Otani in Tokyo.

At the working luncheon, Cambodia's Prime Minister, Lao's Prime Minister, State Counsellor, Thailand's Prime Minister and Vietnam's Prime Minister extended greetings and enjoyed the luncheon together with the representatives from businesses. In the afternoon, the state counsellor together with the prime ministers of Cambodia, Lao, Thailand and Vietnam, representatives of Mekong countries, entrepreneurs from Japan and Mekong countries, invited guests and responsible officials attended the Japan-Mekong Economic Forum titling “Asia New Value Chain Head” organized by JETRO. 

At the Economic Forum, the chair and CEO of JETRO Mr. HEROYuKi ISHEGE and minister for economy, trade and industry of Japan Mr. Heroshege Sego extended greetings. Next, the Cambodia's Prime Minister, Lao's Prime Minister, State Counsellor, Thailand's Prime Minister and Vietnam's Prime Minister delivered the address. Later, the state counsellor arrived at the palace in Tokyo and attended the tea reception.

At the evening, the state counsellor arrived at the state guest house and Japanese Prime Minister welcomed cordially. The state counsellor and the prime minister of Japan attended Myanmar-Japan Bilateral talk. Later, the state counsellor and Japan prime minister attended Japan-Myanmar joint press conference and replied about the outcomes of Myanmar-Japan bilateral talk.

Afterwards, the state counsellor together with the representatives attended the dinner hosted by Japan prime minister at the state guest house. At the dinner, Japan prime minister and state counsellor extended greetings and enjoyed the dinner together with the representatives.
